To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, Blueprint for Living will be hosting an open evening and launch party to view the artworks in a relaxed social environment.
This is an opportunity for the residents of the Fitzhugh Estate to be taken on a personal tour of the exhibition by artist and curator Sharon O’Neill where she will give an insight into the story of the Estate and the work on display.
Film maker Marc Isaacs, photographer and Blueprint for Living curator Sharon O’Neill and Justine Sambrook of the RIBA Collections will give an introduction to the work on display and discuss the themes surrounding social documentary film making, photography and working with a prominent archive collection.
We are hosting a coffee morning at the exhibition as an opportunity for residents, present and past, to gather for an informal cup of tea or coffee. Please bring along any photographs and your memories from living on the estate.
The Great Estate: The Rise and Fall of the Council House. A special screening of the acclaimed BBC4 documentary in which writer and broadcaster Michael Collins presents a thought provoking and heartwarming history of one of Britain’s greatest social revolutions – council housing.
Writer, commentator on architecture and cultural politics and author of several books including Militant Modernism and The Ministry of Nostalgia, Owen Hatherley will be in conversation with John Boughton of Municipal Dreams at the Blueprint for Living exhibition. An opportunity to engage in a lively debate.
